My Vintage Christmas Gift

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Years! I wanted to show off the beautiful art deco dresser my husband got me. It's a 1930's metal dresser made to look like wood! Apparently during the 20's and 30's metal furniture became a fad, but didn't last too long so there's not much of it out there. I can't wait to fill it full of vintage clothes!

Vintage Winter Wear - 1930's

I really need to get some winter vintage clothes! My summer 1930's dresses aren't cutting it anymore. I just love the long skirts of the 1930's. Classy and perfect for winter time. If I could find one of these with a matching coat I'd be set!

Back from the land of Vintage Clothes

Wow, I'm so behind in blogging! I did put a ton of new vintage clothing, swimsuits, etc on my website though! If you would like more info on any of the items, just click on my link near the top left of the blog. Here are a few of the pics. There's a 1950's sun suit, a 1920's dress, a black 1950's swimsuit with red buttons, a 1960's dress with pink flowers, and a pink 50's party dress.

Besides that, I've been hitting up a lot of antique malls, which is probably one of my favorite things in the world to do! What can I say, I love old stuff. Oh, and I also picked up a depression glass powder container with a little deer figure on top. It's one of the cutest things I've ever seen!

Vintage in Vegas!

I love coming home from a vacation with more vintage clothes then I packed! Viva Las Vegas was so much fun, and I picked up some great stuff! Included in my purchases were a black 1950's swimsuit with red buttons, a striped 50's bikini and an adorable 50's summer top! I will try to post some pics asap! I also came home to a beautiful lucite purse and 50's prom gown I had ordered off Ebay. Vintage in the mail is the best! Above is a photo of Betty Grable in Las Vegas in 1954. She's so cute!

More Vintage Goodies

I've been having lots of luck lately! Finding more and more vintage clothes all the time. Hopefully it keeps up. First I found a glamorous 1960's coat with a mink collar. It's in perfect condition too! Next I found a gorgeous 60's cocktail dress. It's a golden yellow color with chiffon bodice and sleeves. So pretty. Lastly, my first 1930's bathing suit! Most of my swimsuits are from the 50's, so this my new favorite.

Vintage Clothing Deals

So there's this really expensive vintage store that I like to frequent. They have an incredible selection of gorgeous items, but they're anything but cheap.
Anyhow, they have a bunch of sections. You know, one section of 1940's dresses, one of 1950's dresses, 1960's and so on. Of course the older the garment, the higher the price. It makes sense.
I notice that every so often, some of the clothing gets mixed up. For instance, once in awhile I'll find a 50's dress in the 70's section, which means it's marked at the 70's clothing price. I don't know how they get them mixed up, but they do.
So when I got there this weekend, I headed right for the 1970's section. After flipping through about 50 polyester dresses, I see it. A long velvet gown with a floral design and sweetheart neckline. I knew right away that this was no 70's dress. It was very similar to the gown pictured, except it was black and red. I examined it further, and concluded that it was from the 40's. Price? $45. It was after all on the seventies rack. The 40's rack averages around $100-$300. Obviously I was going to buy the dress either way, but what made it even better is that it actually fit. When I brought it up to the register to pay, I asked the sales girl how old the dress was. She looked at it and confirmed that it was forties, and then said "you better buy this right away, it was in the wrong section!". That made my weekend for sure. She then told me how she went to this thrift shop not long ago, and found an authentic flapper dress for 3.99! Anyone else found amazing deals on vintage clothes?

Vintage Clothing Treasures

So, I discovered this hidden vintage clothing shop in the small town where I'm staying. You know, one of those places that doesn't advertise, and is basically an old door with a hand written sign on it, and is only open a few days a week. Anyhow, once I opened the wooden door I was faced with a huge old staircase that creaked every step of the way up. Who knew what would await me? I honestly didn't think it would be more than a consignment shop with maybe some 70's clothing. After all, I don't remember the sign even saying anything about vintage. When I reached the top, it looked like a huge vintage dressing room from heaven. It was absolutely beautiful, with all the vintage mirrors, draped fabric and antique dressing tables. There was case after case of vintage hats, shoes, and every other type of clothing and accessories you could imagine. It wasn't the typical vintage store, with the racks of vintage clothes lined up. Every item in this place was just displayed so perfectly, and you could tell how much time was put into setting up the shop. Could this be the reason the it's only open 4 days a week? I wouldn't doubt it. Anyhow, half the store was vintage and the other half consignment I think. My only disappointment was that some of the vintage items weren't for sale, and only for display! Why do they do that? If I wanted to go to a museum I would! If they don't want to sell their favorite items, my suggestion would be to price them so high that it would be impossible to sell them!
What I do like though is the 1940's ladies suit jacket I found. Pure class. In perfect condition, black, nice big shoulder pads, and so Lauren Bacall. The best part though? The price, $20.
Oh, and that's my darling Carloe Landis in the photo.

Vintage Champaign

Ladies, sorry for the lack of posts and sudden changes. My blog template suddenly dissappeared on me, so I had to scramble to put something together. I should just create my own blog template, but that would take time away from my vintage clothes shopping. You know how it is. Anyhow, the theme of this post is Champaign, color that is. First of all, we know you can never have too many pairs of vintage shoes. So here is yet another pair I just ordered off Ebay. I would say they're around 1940's to 1950's, and they even come with the original box!
Next is this magnificent vintage gown that was a few hundred dollars too much for me this week. Isn't the back of it gorgeous? I've never seen anything quite like it. Wow.

Vintage Sixties Style

I finally saw Factory Girl. I know, I'm way behind in the times but I've been trying to catch up on my 1930's movies! So, of course I loved this movie because of the vintage clothes! I think Sienna Miller did a pretty decent job as Edie Sedgwick. Her 1960's makeup was incredible, and I love how every outfit was accessorized! Not one article of clothing looked plain, or boring. I notice that in most newer movies, people are dressed nice but boring. Plain shirt, plain pants, etc. Do you know what I mean? Or maybe I'm just obsessed with every other era except the one I live in.
