Wishing you a wonderful holiday and lots of vintage clothing this Christmas! - Jayne Mansfield, Jean Harlow, Judy Garland, Lauren Bacall, Esther Williams, Doris Day and Carole Lombard.
I really need to get some winter vintage clothes! My summer 1930's dresses aren't cutting it anymore. I just love the long skirts of the 1930's. Classy and perfect for winter time. If I could find one of these with a matching coat I'd be set!
Carole Lombard was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1908. Her parents divorced in 1914, so her mother moved Carole and her brothers to Los Angeles. Carole soon became interested in acting, and made her screen debut in 1921. During the 1930's she became the queen of screwball comedies, and was the highest paid actress of the time. She was married twice, first to William Powell, and then to Clark Gable. Between her marriages, she was known for her wild parties that she hosted at her home on Hollywood Boulevard. However, when she got married to Gable, the two bought a ranch and led a quieter life, raising chickens and horses. Did you know that Carole turned down the lead role in "It Happened One Night", that Claudette Colbert won an oscar for?
Can you name all these vintage starlets? I had to look twice as some of them have a different hair color or are just really young!
Ok, so here are the answers: Starting from the top is the very young Barbara Stanwyck, then we have a brunette Carole Lombard, next is Rita Hayworth in her teenage brunette days, and lastly is the young Lana Turner.
Yes, another vintage swimsuit post! But how could I not brag about the 1930's bathing suit I just got! This is my oldest one yet! It's black, and it basically looks like a long tank top made out of wool. Here are some photos of Joan Blondell, Claudette Colbert, Carole Lombard and Jean Harlow, in the swimwear of the time. I must say, Jean's suit is pretty scandalous compared to the other ones! They're all pretty cute though. I love the little belts that were worn with them! Which swimsuit is your favorite?
The perfection that is Carole Lombard. Now, why can't I ever find a vintage swimsuit like that? Stunningly beautiful and funny, Carole was the queen of comedies in the 1930's. She was also famous for her sassy language. Director Mitchell Leisen called her: "The profane angel, because she looked like an angel and swore like a sailor." Gotta love her.
Carole Landis in 1940. It was almost impossible to choose a picture of her, as each one is more stunning than the next. Did you know Carole chose her screen name after her idol Carole Lombard? She looks like perfection, maybe that's why she was voted best dressed screen star in 1943.
