1940's Fashion on Film - Leave Her To Heaven

Gene Tierney is the star of this 1945 film. Her character is, for lack of better words, a psychotic freak. But at least she got to play a psycho with style! Throughout the movie, Gene has a ton of great costume changes. Her outfits range from sophisticated to casual, but she always looks fabulous. I just wish I had a full length picture of the green halter neck 1940's bathing suit she wears, it's amazing!

Long Sleeve Vintage Blouses

I've been busy doing a lot of shopping lately, and I just got the most gorgeous vintage blouse. It's got long billowy sleeves, a shirt style collar, and pretty rhinestone buttons. I don't have a photo of it yet, but it's almost a combination of the blouses posted above. The first photo is from the 1930's, next is 1940's, and the last photo is 1950's. My blouse is from the 50's, but it has big sheer sleeves like the 1930's picture. Now I need a nice vintage skirt to go with it! After all, you can never have too many vintage blouses & skirts :)

Happy Birthday Ida Lupino

Ida Lupino was born in London, England in 1918. She was born into a show business family, and got her first film role in 1931. Ida is best known for her tough girl roles in 1940's movies, and not only did she act but she directed! Ida was the first woman to direct a film noir with "The Hitch-Hiker". She also kept busy from the 50's to the 70's directing a ton of TV shows such as "The Twilight Zone" and "The Untouchables". Happy Birthday Ida!

1940's Crop Top

Check out this cute little 1940's shirt I just got! It needs a little TLC, but I love fixing things up so they look new again. I found a 1940's pattern of a similar midriff baring top with matching shorts and skirt. So adorable! I think I may pair mine with some black 1950's capris that have been stored away in my closet, waiting for the perfect top.

1940's Fashion on Film - Now Voyager

Not only is this a great movie, but the 1940's clothing is incredible! Bette Davis is stunning in the outfits worn by her characters new improved self. It's no surprise, as the costume designer for this film was the amazing Orry Kelly. There are so many gorgeous wardrobe changes I can't even pick a favorite. I have to say though, I absolutely love her sunglasses in the last photo!

Vintage 1940's Coats

I love vintage coats of all eras, but I especially love 1940's coats. The third photo is of my grandmother in the early 40's wearing one of her favorite coats. I wish I knew what color it was!

1940's Fashion on Film - It's a Wonderful Life

Another great Christmas film filled with fabulous vintage clothing. It's funny, I never think of clothes when I think of this movie, but when I looked a little closer I couldn't believe what I had missed! I especially love the wardrobe of Gloria Grahames character Violet. Lots of gorgeous 1940's dresses, hats and suits!

Happy Birthday Betty Grable

Betty Grable was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1916. She started acting when she was just 12 years old, and signed a contract with Paramount Pictures in the 1930's. Betty was known not only for her acting, but for her legs! After Betty posed for her iconic bathing suit photo, she became the most popular pin-up girl during WWII. She was known as "the girl with the million dollar legs", as her studio had them insured for one million dollars! I love all these pictures of Betty in the 1930's and 1940's, she looks stunning in every different style.

Vintage Slippers

How are you going to keep your feet warm this winter? I just love slippers, especially vintage ones. When I'm indoors I love to keep my feet cozy with vintage slippers. It's funny though, a lot of vintage slippers look like fancy evening shoes today! In fact, for my own wedding and my sisters wedding, I wore a pair of glamorous 1940's slippers almost identical to the ones Barbara Stanwyck is wearing in the last photo. Nobody knew they the difference!

Vintage Nightgown

I just got this glamorous 1940's nightgown for myself. It's so pretty I'm scared to wear it! I found a picture of a very similar bias cut nightgown in a catalog from 1940. It's the one on the bottom center and right, and only $1! I wish mine had been that price!

1940's Sweaters

Well, it's getting closer to winter so I thought I'd post some vintage sweater pics! I think my favorite era for sweaters was the 1940's. I just love how they're nice and fitted, and you can't go wrong with those cute little puff sleeves.
