Vintage Pinafore and 1950's Dress

Just added these two cute items to my web store. First is a 1940's pinafore dress in a cute novelty print of little houses and flowers. Pretty adorable. Then there's a pretty pink 1950's dress, which looks like it belongs at summer garden party. Still haven't found anything for myself though! I've been on the hunt for a new vintage dress for a few weeks now. I've found tons a gorgeous dresses, but none in my size. I guess the perfect dress will come along at the right time, I know it's out there somewhere!

Yellow Striped 1950's Dress

Here is the latest addition to my vintage dress section on my website! Sadly it was not my size, so i hope it will find a loving home and be put to good use! I'm not sure if it can technically be called a shirtwaist dress, as it doesn't have a typical shirt collar, but it's cute nonetheless! I always try and find vintage designs of the dresses I have, so this was the closest one I found! It's a 1950's dress pattern. Not an exact match, but similar idea.

1940's Dresses and Accessories

After looking at these pictures of 1940's fashion, I realized that the accessories are what makes the outfit. Without the hats, gloves, furs and jewelry almost all the glamour is gone. Of course this is probably obvious to most, but I've never been a big accessorizer - especially when I should be, like when wearing a nice vintage dress. So, I've decided to put in some effort, for the sake of vintage fashion. I have a wedding to go to in about 2 weeks. I plan on wearing a long 1940's gown, and usually that would be it. But I'm going to see what I can find. Hopefully at least some vintage gloves and jewelry!

Vintage Dress Deja Vu

I watched the movie "The Shining Hour" last night starring Joan Crawford. It was made in 1938. Near the beginning of the film she wears a dress that reminds me of the gold one Marilyn Monroe wears in the movie "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes", which was made in 1953. I wonder if the dress designer was inspired by Joan's 1930's dress? I also just found out that Gentlement Prefer Blondes was actually first made as a silent film in 1928! I would love to see it! It stars Alice White and Ruth Taylor in the roles later played by Jane Russell and Marilyn Monroe. Sadly the film was lost, but you can see from the photographs this movie had some great 1920's dresses!

Vintage Dress Finds!

I got a bunch of great vintage dresses over the past couple weeks. Not all of them fit me just right, so they're going up on my website. Here are some of the photos! I think my favorite is the red 1950's dress, but I also love the blue 1960's dress and the 60's babydoll nightie. So cute.

Vintage Holiday Dresses

Here's some beautiful 1930's and 1940's dresses that would turn heads this holiday season. My favorite vintage dress is the lilac colored satin one in middle. I also love Barbara Stanwyck's little fuzzy bolero jacket worn with her long black gown. The picture is from "Christmas in Connecticut". Has anyone seen it? I haven't, but I would love to. It sounds pretty cute. I actually bought the dvd for my sister for Christmas this year. I was hoping I could somehow unwrap it, watch it, and then seal it back up, but I don't think that's gonna work. Too bad. Last but not least that gorgeous velvet dress. I'm picturing it in a deep red, but you can pretty much picture it in whatever color you want. :)

Bombshell 1950's Dress!

Wow, check out this 50's vintage dress I just got! I love how the chiffon is layered so has a puffy look to it. It must have been a prom gown, or worn for something very special! Unfortunately it's too big for me so I'll have to put it on my website. Hmm, who could I picture wearing this? Maybe Betty Grable or Marilyn Monroe in "How to Marry a Millionaire"? I wouldn't say Bacall, as her dresses seemed a little more conservative compared to the other two. But this is more of the glamorous girly look that they had, I love it!

Cute Vintage 1960's Dress

I was lucky enough to score some cute vintage dresses off a lady I met a while back. This is my favorite. She purchased this black party dress in the 1960's, and only wore it a couple times. It's in perfect condition except for a weird stain on the back of the dress. Lucky it's not that noticeable since the dress is black. The stain is almost a burgundy color, and I can't figure out what it's from. Strange. Anyhow, this vintage dress is absolutely adorable. It has a cute little matching belt, and I love the way the skirt puffs out. Unfortunately, it's a tiny bit too big for me so I may have to sell it. Or I could just add it to my collection of beautiful pieces that I can't wear, but can't bear to part with!

Vintage 50's Halter Dress

I haven't had much time for thrift shopping lately, so I headed straight for the vintage clothing store the other day. I'm glad I did, because I found the most perfect 1950's dress! It looked exactly like the vintage dress pictured above, except it was green with more of a hawaiian print. Very summertime pin-up girl. It wasn't quite the bargain thift shop price that I like, but it was definitely something I couldn't pass up! It will go perfectly with a pina colada this summer!

Vintage Dress Oops

Please tell me I'm not the only one who has accidentally ruined/ripped or destroyed a beautiful vintage clothing piece! I was actually doing pretty good for awhile. There had been a period about a year ago, where a few of my items had been damaged accidentally. Usually I am extremely careful, but what can you do if you touch the lace on a 1940's dress and it disintegrates before your eyes! Then I go to try on my beautiful bias cut satin slip, and what do I hear? Tearing! No! I just bought it! I hadn't even worn it yet. It's only a tiny rip in the back, but still!! I guess sometimes theres nothing you can do. Of course I will try to replace these items as best I can, after all its a good excuse for more shopping!

Vintage 70's Boots

I just don't post enough pictures of boots, so here we go. These are hot. Leather knee high 1970's vintage boots. Think these would look better with a mini dress or with jeans? I have a bit of a vintage dress obsession, so I'm gonna go with a super short 60's mini dress.

My 1940's Vintage Dress

Ooh lala. Remember that 40's dress I found at that vintage clothing store? The one where they accidentally hung it up in the 70's section by mistake? For a way cheaper price? Well, here it is! Gorgeous black velvet with a red flower design throughout. It also has this attached little cape from the shoulders around the back. I adore this gown. It's one of my top choices for New Years Eve!

Vintage 50's Poodle Skirt

Does anybody actually have an original 1950's vintage poodle skirt?
Saw this picture of one online today. I see the costumes everywhere, but it must be rare to find an original poodle skirt.
I have something better though. I have a authentic 50's gingham poodle dress with little rhinestones on it! It's the most unique and adorable vintage dress, but unfortunately I don't have a picture yet! I know, excuses, excuses. But seriously, once I finally move, I'll unpack the rest of my vintage clothing and post it!

My Newest Vintage Dress

Just purchased this 1940's beauty, and yes, my size! Full length blue/green taffeta evening gown with a gorgeous big bow in the back. Where will I wear this to you ask? That's not the point, the point is it's mine, all mine!

Vintage Hawaiian Dreams

I swear I found a 1950's vintage dress & bolero almost identical to this one in a vintage store. For some dumb reason, I didn't buy it and decided to think about it for a few days - bad idea. So I finally decide yes, I must have it, I need it now! Obviously I go back and it's gone! Why does my brain do this to me?! Of course I haven't seen anything like it since, except on Ebay and never my size. Lesson #1, never say no to vintage.

Ebay Dress of the Day

Wow. Found this 1920's vintage flapper dress on Ebay today. Not my size, but gorgeous and very tempting. It's made of black silk crepe with 4 layers of ruffles, plus the floral patterned lace. Oh, I would love to own something from the 20's....

Classic Vintage Dress

This is so perfect. I love it. This is actually a 1940's pattern, I only wish I had time to sew! I haven't sewn anything in months, my sewing machine misses me! Hmm, what color of fabric would I go for if I made this dress? I think I would pick a really light blue.

Vintage Square Dancing Dress

Oh this is a fun dress. I love what a crinoline can do, and I love these colors right now. Actually no, who am I kidding, I love all colors all the time. Anyways, gotta find me one of these dresses for summer!
