1930's Fashion on Film - Night Nurse

I've wanted to watch this film for so long as it features my 2 favorite actresses, Barbara Stanwyck and Joan Blondell. "Night Nurse" was made in 1931, so being a pre-code film it contains lots of cute 1930's lingerie, as well as lots of great hats and coats. I especially love the old nurse uniforms!

Vintage Slippers

How are you going to keep your feet warm this winter? I just love slippers, especially vintage ones. When I'm indoors I love to keep my feet cozy with vintage slippers. It's funny though, a lot of vintage slippers look like fancy evening shoes today! In fact, for my own wedding and my sisters wedding, I wore a pair of glamorous 1940's slippers almost identical to the ones Barbara Stanwyck is wearing in the last photo. Nobody knew they the difference!

Happy Birthday Barbara Stanwyck

It's not actually until tomorrow, but I thought I'd start celebrating early! Barbara Stanwyck was born on July 16, 1907 in Brooklyn, New York. She is probably my favorite actress of all time. Barbara was talented, smart, gorgeous, and she always gave me the impression she didn't take any crap from anyone. Her look changed from decade to decade as the styles changed, but to me she stood out from the rest. She was unique, and seemed different than the typical Hollywood starlets of the time. Here are some photos of her from the 20's to the 50's that showcase her different styles and fabulous vintage clothing.

Guess Who? Vintage Starlet Photos

Can you name all these vintage starlets? I had to look twice as some of them have a different hair color or are just really young!
Ok, so here are the answers: Starting from the top is the very young Barbara Stanwyck, then we have a brunette Carole Lombard, next is Rita Hayworth in her teenage brunette days, and lastly is the young Lana Turner.

Vintage Holiday Dresses

Here's some beautiful 1930's and 1940's dresses that would turn heads this holiday season. My favorite vintage dress is the lilac colored satin one in middle. I also love Barbara Stanwyck's little fuzzy bolero jacket worn with her long black gown. The picture is from "Christmas in Connecticut". Has anyone seen it? I haven't, but I would love to. It sounds pretty cute. I actually bought the dvd for my sister for Christmas this year. I was hoping I could somehow unwrap it, watch it, and then seal it back up, but I don't think that's gonna work. Too bad. Last but not least that gorgeous velvet dress. I'm picturing it in a deep red, but you can pretty much picture it in whatever color you want. :)

Vintage Starlet of the Day

Miss Barbara Stanwyck. Has anyone else seen "Baby Face"? I just watched it for the first time, and its definitely one of my favorite movies from the 1930's. It's one of the more racy films that was made before the Hays Code was put into effect in 1934. The Hays Code dictated what could and couldn't be shown on film, and pretty much censored everything. After the code, "Baby Face" was completely changed, scenes were taken out & I think they even gave it a different ending.
Anyhow, the original is back, and Barbara is incredible as Lily Powers, a woman who sleeps her way to the top. I love the fact that Barbara has a completely different look and style in every movie I've seen her in.
