More Jean Harlow and Classic Movie Info

Okay, so according to the web Jean was 5'2 tall and 109 lbs. Her measurements were 34-25-36. Which I'm assuming is normal for her height. Nowadays those measurements are on models that are 5'11! I love that the most gorgeous women were more average sizes back then! Jean's a doll, she's so adorable. I've only seen her in "Libeled Lady", which was great, but I would love to see her other films. Unfortunately I was too busy with Ginger Rogers this past weekend! I saw "Kitty Foyle" which was good, and "Stage Door" which I loved even more! I swear I watch these movies just for the clothes. "Stage Door" was hillarious though, and Katherine Hepburn and Lucille Ball were in it too. Can't say I was too into Hepburn's fashion choices in this movie, but Ginger and Lucy were stunning, and sarcastic as usual.

Vintage Starlet of the Day

Jean Harlow. The 5'2 bombshell of the 1930's. I always loved her platinum blonde hair. Apparently she damaged her hair so badly with weekly bleaching that she actually wore wigs in some of her films. Weekly bleaching?! My hair would have all fallen out by now if I bleached it every week. Not to mention back then I'm sure the bleach solutions were way more harsh on your hair.

Vintage Lucite Heels

Oooh, I love these dainty 1950's shoes. Unfortunately they're a tiny size 6, so I can't get them. Check out the beautiful details. The gold lucite heels have a pattern of leaves carved into the back, and cute little rhinestones on the front.

Ebay Dress of the Day

Wow. Found this 1920's vintage flapper dress on Ebay today. Not my size, but gorgeous and very tempting. It's made of black silk crepe with 4 layers of ruffles, plus the floral patterned lace. Oh, I would love to own something from the 20's....

Hot Bettie Baby

Keeping with the beach theme, here's a picture of the beautiful Bettie Page in a vintage 2 piece swimsuit to die for! Hot hot hot.

Retro Hair Fun

So, I got a new vintage style hair-do. Yay! My stylist was nice enough to give me some finger waves, so I took some pictures right away. Good thing I did, because as soon as I wash it out, my hair will go right back to its limp lifeless self. Or maybe it's afro self. I never know anymore.

Back to the Beach in Vintage

Sorry about the lack in posts, but summer is here, and I've been at the beach all week! In vintage of course! Unfortunately I was way too lazy to wear heels with my swimsuit, but other than that I kept my style pretty 1950's.

Vintage Starlet of the Day

The fabulous Julia Jean Mildred Frances Turner, otherwise known as Lana. Speaking of marriage, Lana was married 8 times! I would love to see pictures of each wedding dress she wore, what a collection she must have had.
Here's a useless fact: Lanas eyebrows always had to be drawn on. When her eyebrows were shaved off in the late 1930's (as most actresses were) for some reason, hers never grew back!

First Barbie Commercial

This is so cute. Check it out.

Classic Vintage Dress

This is so perfect. I love it. This is actually a 1940's pattern, I only wish I had time to sew! I haven't sewn anything in months, my sewing machine misses me! Hmm, what color of fabric would I go for if I made this dress? I think I would pick a really light blue.

Vintage Square Dancing Dress

Oh this is a fun dress. I love what a crinoline can do, and I love these colors right now. Actually no, who am I kidding, I love all colors all the time. Anyways, gotta find me one of these dresses for summer!

Vintage Starlet of the Day

Gene Tierney. I can't get over her gorgeous clothing. I did some reading up on the always beautiful Gene. It's weird how so many starlets have extremely tragic lives. Apparently she suffered from depression, and was given shock therapy. After 27 shock treatments, Gene tried to escape, only to be caught and re-institutionalized. It eventually destroyed large parts of her memory.
Gene eventually died of emphysema from smoking. Ironically, it was her studio bosses when she was a young actress who had encouraged her to start smoking, they thought it would make her voice sexier.

Vintage Sixties Mini Dress

Sooo perfect for summer. I found this one on Ebay. I don't know why, but I've been neglecting all my 60's vintage dresses lately. I go through phases where I'll wear one decade or style for months, and then move onto a different one. This just reminded me of how much I LOVE mini dresses. Now I'm gonna go pull all mine out the boxes.

Vintage Dress Up Time

I babysat my little niece the other night, and who wouldn't want to play dress up with my 20 boxes of vintage clothing? Except she doesn't like to stick to one decade, she likes to mix it up a bit. Lets see, there's the 60's mini dress and purse, the 80's gold heels, and the 50's hat. Looks good to me.

Vintage Hat Dreaming

So, I found these three gorgeous hats that I love. The first one is from the 20's, second one from the 30's, and of course the last one is from the 40's. I think that if I had to pick one though, I would choose the green 30's hat. I love the fact that it has a bit of a masculine look to it. Which is your favorite?

Ebay Dress of the Day

Mine! It's a vintage swing dress. It's got a cute velvet trim around the collar and sleeves, and a nice full skirt that would great on the dance floor. I really wish it fit, but unfortunately it's just not my size, so I put it up for sale. More details here.

Vintage Starlet of the Day

Louise Brooks. Dancer and actress, Louise became the hot trendsetter of the 1920's. Not just with her stylish clothes, but with her pageboy hairstyle that influenced women everywhere. Did you know that after she stopped acting in 1938, she became a very accomplished writer?

Vintage Hawaiian Style

Aloha! I was looking on Ebay for a vintage Hawaiian dress, and I came across this.
What a beauty....too bad I promised myself I wouldn't buy clothing on Ebay for another month! I spent way past my limit last time!
