Happy Birthday Barbara Stanwyck

It's not actually until tomorrow, but I thought I'd start celebrating early! Barbara Stanwyck was born on July 16, 1907 in Brooklyn, New York. She is probably my favorite actress of all time. Barbara was talented, smart, gorgeous, and she always gave me the impression she didn't take any crap from anyone. Her look changed from decade to decade as the styles changed, but to me she stood out from the rest. She was unique, and seemed different than the typical Hollywood starlets of the time. Here are some photos of her from the 20's to the 50's that showcase her different styles and fabulous vintage clothing.

Vintage Sunglasses

I LOVE 1950's sunglasses. I cannot say no to a pair of cat eye sunglasses ever! I posted pics of my lastest finds, as well as pics of Marilyn Monroe, Lana Turner & Ava Gardner all making sunglasses look good.

Vintage Clothing Baby Doll Style

"Baby Doll". Not only is this movie wonderfully scandalous, but the clothes Carroll Baker wears are the same. Innocent and sweet, but seductive at the same time. She only has a few costume changes throughout the film, but they all make a statement. It's hard to believe this movie was made in 1956, I always think of it as way later.

Vintage Camping Inspiration

It's finally summer again! For me that means it's time to start planning our camping trip. I'll try to include some vintage items of course, so we'll see what I can dig up. Usually the only vintage items I bring are my 1950's swimsuit & shorts. Here are some cute 1950's vintage pics I found. One is of my grandparents on one of their many camping trips! Enjoy!

1950's Shirtwaist Dress

Vintage clothing update! I just put this striped shirtwaist dress on my website. I was hoping to keep it, but it's just not my size. Such a cute housewife-type 1950's dress. I tried to find pics of other striped shirtwaist dresses. Didn't find any exactly the same as mine, but definitely some pretty ones. What do you like better, short sleeves or long sleeves? I think I'm more of a short sleeve type girl myself.

My Vintage Christmas Tree
Well, I'm almost ready for Christmas! I thought I would show off my "new" tree. It's a 4 foot tall 1950's aluminum tree. Decorated with vintage ornaments. Now all it needs are some presents under it!

Happy Vintage New Year!

Hope everyone had a great Christmas & New Years! I got some fabulous vintage clothing & retro items over the holidays. But best of all was a ton of photos my dad gave me of my grandmother and her friends in the 40's and 50's. There's some great 1940's dresses and other vintage clothing shown in the pics. I just wish I had all her old clothes! Who knows what happened to it over the years, and sadly I never had a chance to ask. I wish I could go back in time and try on all the amazing vintage clothes that were around back then! Anyhow, I will try and post all the pics in the next little while!

Back from the land of Vintage Clothes

Wow, I'm so behind in blogging! I did put a ton of new vintage clothing, swimsuits, etc on my website though! If you would like more info on any of the items, just click on my link near the top left of the blog. Here are a few of the pics. There's a 1950's sun suit, a 1920's dress, a black 1950's swimsuit with red buttons, a 1960's dress with pink flowers, and a pink 50's party dress.Besides that, I've been hitting up a lot of antique malls, which is probably one of my favorite things in the world to do! What can I say, I love old stuff. Oh, and I also picked up a depression glass powder container with a little deer figure on top. It's one of the cutest things I've ever seen!

New Vintage Stuff!

I've collected some great vintage accessories over the last week! My favorite is my 1940's shoes! They're black suede wedge platforms, and they're in perfect condition. I can't wait to wear them out! Next is my cute little lucite purse! It's a clear clutch purse, with lots of rhinestones decorating the front of it. So pretty. Lastly, an antique galalith bracelet. It's so beautiful! Now I need some new vintage clothes to go with my latest purchases! I've bid on so much clothing on Ebay lately, but I keep getting outbid in the last couple seconds! I think I may just have to hit up the local vintage stores this weekend :)Monday, April 27, 2009

Vintage in Vegas!
I love coming home from a vacation with more vintage clothes then I packed! Viva Las Vegas was so much fun, and I picked up some great stuff! Included in my purchases were a black 1950's swimsuit with red buttons, a striped 50's bikini and an adorable 50's summer top! I will try to post some pics asap! I also came home to a beautiful lucite purse and 50's prom gown I had ordered off Ebay. Vintage in the mail is the best! Above is a photo of Betty Grable in Las Vegas in 1954. She's so cute!
