Ida Lupino was born in London, England in 1918. She was born into a show business family, and got her first film role in 1931. Ida is best known for her tough girl roles in 1940's movies, and not only did she act but she directed! Ida was the first woman to direct a film noir with "The Hitch-Hiker". She also kept busy from the 50's to the 70's directing a ton of TV shows such as "The Twilight Zone" and "The Untouchables". Happy Birthday Ida!
Oscar winning actress Gloria Grahame was born in Los Angeles, California in 1923. She started off as a theater actress and then made her film debut in 1944. Gloria is widely known for her role as "Violet" in "It's a Wonderful Life", as well as her performances in many great film noir flicks. Interesting fact - Gloria's family comes from royalty. Her fathers side descended from King Edward III, and her mothers side came from the Scottish King of the Hebrides.
One of the theaters downtown is playing film noir all this month, which is great because I'm able to see my favorite classic movies on the big screen! My boyfriend and I went to see The Postman Always Rings Twice the other night, and I loved it. What I loved even more though, was the clothing Lana Turner wore! Every outfit was breathtaking. She just looked so beautifully put together in every scene. 1940's fashion at it's best.
