Clara was born in Brooklyn, New York in the summer between 1905 and 1907. July 29th is date most people seem to agree with so we'll go with that. She was born without a birth certificate because her parents didn't think she would survive. Apparently the infant mortality rate was around 80% during that time in New York. All morbid thoughts aside, I think most women would be pretty happy not having a birth certificate. Nobody could ever really prove your age! Anyhow, Clara is one of my favorite silent era dolls. She is just so captivating and adorable, you just can't take your eyes off her. I posted a few of my favorite photos of her. I especially love her outfit in the last pic, what a beautiful coat! Don't miss the gorgeous vintage dresses in the 3rd picture of her. She always had amazing style.

1940's Fashion on Film - Moon Over Miami
Even if you're not into musical comedies, Betty Grable and the amazing fashion in this film make it worth watching! Made in 1941, "Moon Over Miami" captures the fun and glamour of early 1940's fashion. It would have been a great distraction from thinking about WWII. Betty Grable and Carole Landis start off as singing waitresses in cute cowgirl costumes. They then move on to find rich men at a Miami resort, where they showcase an endless selection of beautiful 1940's dresses. My favorite is the white dress Betty wears with the butterfly designs. Gorgeous.

1940's Vintage Sunsuit
I had to show off this 2 piece 1940's sunsuit I just added to my store! Absolutely adorable! It didn't look like this when I got it though...all the buttons were missing, the seams were all coming apart, etc. I had been looking for matching vintage buttons for so long, but couldn't find any. So I ended up buying some really pretty clear 1940's buttons. I figured they would be my safest bet. Then I got it cleaned and stitched up, so now it's ready to wear to the beach!

Happy Birthday Barbara Stanwyck
It's not actually until tomorrow, but I thought I'd start celebrating early! Barbara Stanwyck was born on July 16, 1907 in Brooklyn, New York. She is probably my favorite actress of all time. Barbara was talented, smart, gorgeous, and she always gave me the impression she didn't take any crap from anyone. Her look changed from decade to decade as the styles changed, but to me she stood out from the rest. She was unique, and seemed different than the typical Hollywood starlets of the time. Here are some photos of her from the 20's to the 50's that showcase her different styles and fabulous vintage clothing.

Vintage Clothing Baby Doll Style
"Baby Doll". Not only is this movie wonderfully scandalous, but the clothes Carroll Baker wears are the same. Innocent and sweet, but seductive at the same time. She only has a few costume changes throughout the film, but they all make a statement. It's hard to believe this movie was made in 1956, I always think of it as way later.
