Vintage Kitchen Inspirations - 1960's

How do you like your 60's kitchen? Funky or Sleek? It's funny how different the styles are. The pictures of the early 1960's kitchens look very mid century modern, whereas the late 1960's kitchens are much more loud. Don't get me wrong, I love them all. I'm actually having a hard time picking a favorite!

My 1920's Coat

While searching for a new vintage coat for this winter, I came across this pretty 1920's coat. I had actually been looking for a 1930's coat, but this one was gorgeous black velvet, in great condition, and at a bargain price. So of course I had to buy it! How could I pass it up?

Happy Birthday Gloria Grahame

Oscar winning actress Gloria Grahame was born in Los Angeles, California in 1923. She started off as a theater actress and then made her film debut in 1944. Gloria is widely known for her role as "Violet" in "It's a Wonderful Life", as well as her performances in many great film noir flicks. Interesting fact - Gloria's family comes from royalty. Her fathers side descended from King Edward III, and her mothers side came from the Scottish King of the Hebrides.

Vintage Nightdress

I just added this pretty vintage nightgown to my webstore. It's from the late teens or very early 1920's. So it's almost an antique! I thought about keeping it for myself, but I already have so many vintage nightgowns that I don't wear. What I like about this one though, is that it's casual and comfortable, and not so fancy that I'd be scared to wear it :)

Vintage Stoles

I just love vintage wraps to wear over dresses! They're perfect when you don't need a coat, but still want something nice to wear over your outfit. I posted photos of some pretty 1950's stoles. I just love the white knit stoles, I only wish I could find some like that!

1930's Fashion on Film - Night Nurse

I've wanted to watch this film for so long as it features my 2 favorite actresses, Barbara Stanwyck and Joan Blondell. "Night Nurse" was made in 1931, so being a pre-code film it contains lots of cute 1930's lingerie, as well as lots of great hats and coats. I especially love the old nurse uniforms!

Vintage Slippers

How are you going to keep your feet warm this winter? I just love slippers, especially vintage ones. When I'm indoors I love to keep my feet cozy with vintage slippers. It's funny though, a lot of vintage slippers look like fancy evening shoes today! In fact, for my own wedding and my sisters wedding, I wore a pair of glamorous 1940's slippers almost identical to the ones Barbara Stanwyck is wearing in the last photo. Nobody knew they the difference!

Makeup Style - Joan Crawford

Most Hollywood stars changed their appearance over time, but then there were some who created their own look. Joan Crawfords exaggerated lips are a prime example. Max Factor helped create this look, and by the 1940's you could see it being imitated all over the place. I posted pics of Joan from the 1920's to the 1960's. Which decade has your favorite Joan look? I personally love her in the 20's and early 30's, with her thin eyebrows and lips. Check out the difference in her eyebrows from the first picture in the late 20's to the last picture from the 60's.

Vintage Nightgown

I just got this glamorous 1940's nightgown for myself. It's so pretty I'm scared to wear it! I found a picture of a very similar bias cut nightgown in a catalog from 1940. It's the one on the bottom center and right, and only $1! I wish mine had been that price!

1940's Sweaters

Well, it's getting closer to winter so I thought I'd post some vintage sweater pics! I think my favorite era for sweaters was the 1940's. I just love how they're nice and fitted, and you can't go wrong with those cute little puff sleeves.

Happy Birthday Veronica Lake

Standing at just 4'11 inches tall and apparently weighing only 90lbs, Veronica Lake must have been the tiniest femme fatale of the 1940's! I think what she was most famous for though was her hairstyle, which was widely imitated. Veronica was born in Brooklyn, New York but later moved with her family to Beverly Hills, which was when she got her start in show business. Fun fact - Veronica got her pilots licence in 1946, and was able to fly by herself between Los Angeles and New York.

Vintage Fashion on Film - My Fair Lady

Although this film was made in 1960's, the time period of the movie was Edwardian. Wow, and the gowns are just amazing! It's no surprise that it won the oscar that year for best costumes. Audrey Hepburn shines in each and every outfit, showcasing not only stunning dresses, but incredible hats, gloves and jewelry. I just wonder how many of the costumes were authentic Edwardian period garments, and how many were reproduction designs?
